A Margarita Snobs Guide to National Margarita Day

National yogurt day? Bleh. National cheesecake day? Bleh. National peanut butter day? Bleh. National margarita day, now that’s something I can get behind!! There are hundreds of places to have a good margarita, these are my top picks for the Houston area! Let me know if I missed your fave! Xo – Margarita Snob!

Cyclone Anaya’s, Several locations

They’re bringing it back to 1978 (the year the Anaya’s introduced the concept to Houston) and offering $5 jumbo margaritas, yes the giant 21 oz goblets! One gets you feeling good, two or more and let’s just say that you’ll need an Uber home, I may say this from experience. Only catch is that an entrée must be purchased!

El Tiempo Cantina, Several locations

My faveeee frozen strawberry margarita!! Their own house tequila is part of what makes this margarita so delicious, and they come in the cutest glasses too! They’ll have special Herradura Silver margaritas on the rocks for $9, and happy hour prices all day long!

Xochi, 1777 Walker St.

They’ll have a special dinner and margarita paring for just $58! I loveee this place and to be honest anything Chef Hugo touches turns to gold! I’ve had “The Greatest Margarita Ever Sold,” and it ain’t cheap! This margarita will set you back $29, and although it’s perfect, I can’t bring myself to splurge this much on just one drink. Good news is that you wont have to either, they will be serving this margarita for $15!! In case you’re curious, the 25-year aged Grand Marnier combined with Gran Centenario añejo tequila is what makes it, “The greatest!”

The Pastry War, 310 Main St.

A night downtown isn’t complete without a stop here. They make their margaritas with blanco tequila, key and Persian limes, agave nectar, and citrus salt! It’s super impressive watching them make an all natural marg from start to finish, have one frozen or shaken. HH is every day from 4-6:30 pm, half off all mezcals and tequilas, complimentary aguas frescas, and free games of pool.

One of my fave bars in the Heights is extending their happy hour all day long! House margaritas are just $5 starting at 2 pm – midnight, now that’s a fiesta done right!

Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen, 6401 Woodway Dr.

I used to live nearby so I would always get my enchilada fix here, I mean Sylvia is the Enchilada Queen of Houston! They’re offering house margaritas for just $6.50!

$8 for their famous Cucumber Mint Margarita! Fresh muddled mint and cucumber with cucumber simple syrup, lime, orange liqueur and blanco tequila, served on the rocks.

El Patio AKA Club No Minor, 644 Westheimer Rd.

They’re offering $5 house ritas and $6 blue frozen ritas. Not sure what they put in the blue ones, but they’ve got a reputation for being strong! El Patio is known for getting wild, and they’ll have a live mariachi band in the evening! I’m sold!!

La Calle Cantina, 909 Franklin St.

Come for the margs stay for the sign! $4 house ritas during happy hour, need I say more?

Margaritas and brunch? They’re making it happen, they serve brunch for dinner every last Thursday of the month! They’ll have their full brunch menu, live music, and 12 different margaritas served individually or as a flight, stop by between 5 – 10 pm.

Have a margarita with me at the 10th Annual Margarita Taste Off!! The Facebook Event link can be found here, drink for a good cause and hit that “Going” button!

Can’t make it out of the house? No problema, make your own at home! My recipe for organic fresh fruit margaritas is here!
