Xochi HRW 2017

I’ve had Xochi on my bucketlist of restaurants to try since it opened, but I was waiting for a special occasion to make my way downtown. Well, my childhood best friend made the trip from Fort Worth to Houston to visit me over her birthday weekend!! It also just happened to be Houston Restaurant Weeks, so I called Xochi, located at 1777 Walker Street, and made a reservation! Just FYI, the restaurant is on the 1st floor of the Marriott Marquis Houston.

Per their website, “Xochi celebrates the flavors of Oaxaca with a creative edge as seen through the creative lens of Chef Hugo, Chef Ruben and Beverage Director Sean.” I can personally attest that they did not disappoint, todo estaba preparado perfectamente!

Mandatory pic with the birthday queen – in the restroom of all places because this place is ridiculously gorgeous!

Their Houston Restaurant Weeks menu is extensive and has something to please any appetite! I had their vegetarian menu for only $35! And I picked at everyone else’s food of course, all other options were $45. You can see their full menu here. If you’re unfamiliar with Houston Restaurant Weeks, from August 1st – Labor Day, you can enjoy delicious lunches, brunches, and dinners at greater Houston’s finest restaurants. Participating restaurants will donate $3 to $7 per HRW meal sold to the Houston Food Bank – dine out with a purpose!

Xochi has a $29 margarita on the menu, and just because we were feeling a little extra, we went ahead and ordered it. It comes in a giant stem glass, and your server pours it out of a cocktail shaker tableside. Delicious? Absolutely! Would I order it again? Probably not, unless it was on someone else’s tab, hehe.

It was one of those things where you try it just to say you’ve had it, because for that price I could’ve had three more of my Don Julio on the rocks margaritas (pictured below)!

The entrees were to die for! How do I know? Because no one made a peep other than to say, “mmmm”, “so good,” or “I’m so full.” My friends told me their meat platters were incredible. The meat fell off the bone and the presentation was absolute perfection! I mean just look at that smile on my face?! I’m truly in my happy place!

When dessert came, I was just ready to bust out of my dress! I tasted everyone’s and the platano crujiente was my fave! I need to go back just to sample all their desserts, because I couldn’t quite finish that 4th course!

Aside from their amazing tequila selections, they also have an extensive wine menu from all the different regions of Mexico, as well as mezcals and Mexican craft beers. Salud!
