Taco Cabana – NEW Flame Grilled Chicken Tacos

As part of Taco Cabana’s blogger tasting program, I had the opportunity to taste the NEW Flame Grilled Chicken Tacos as well as the NEW Premium Lunazul Tequila Margarita. To be honest I hadn’t stepped inside a TC in years, and was looking forward to trying their new menu items! I went to my local TC on a quiet night so I could chat up the manager and the cashier, whom were very sweet and welcoming! I had just missed their happy hour but they let it slide. 🙂 I ordered the trio of New Flame Grilled Chicken Tacos and one Lunazul frozen strawberry margarita and one lime.

Pros:
From the start I like that you have the option to mix & match, I had one of each. The wait time was under 5 minutes and the tacos came on a tray, individually wrapped in foil. I opened one by one and the tacos are filled! They definitely don’t skimp out on the meat, in fact I couldn’t quite finish all three. My favorite was the grilled peppers & onions with salsa roja, it had the most flavor of the three. Their tortillas are hand-made and fresh, which is what makes or breaks a taco in my opinion. I took advantage of the salsa bar and helped myself to three different salsas, cilantro, and sour cream. I really liked the Salsa de Fuego, the other two weren’t spicy.

Now let’s talk about the margaritas! They are so so much better than the $1.50 ones I recall having in college. (Hey, don’t judge, broke college students still gotta drink!) The ratio of tequila to ice is perfect, and more importantly they are strong! The cashier offered salt or sugar for the rim, and don’t forget their happy hour is daily from 4-7 pm!

Taco Cabana continues to be great for families, we saw several during our visit. Both the inside dining and patio are spacious, and it’s a cheap place to get your drank on! During happy hour margs are just $3!

Cons:
I was disappointed that the temperature between my tacos varied, two out of the three were cold and you can tell in the pics because the cheese isn’t melted at all. Although they keep the salsa bar fresh and clean, none of the salsas were mild or spicy. The Salsa Roja was described as “Mexican ketchup,” and that’s exactly what it tasted like.

Unfortunately, the presentation of the NEW Flame Grilled Chicken Tacos pales in comparison to the advertisement. I would place them on a plate or small tray exclusively for dine-in, instead of being wrapped in foil. It would take them up a knotch, simillar to Torchy’s or Velvet Taco. The taste was better than what you would expect from fast food, but for the price you can’t complain.

Summary
Great for a quick lunch, or when you’re looking to save money but you gotta get your taco fix on #tacotuesday – it’s tradition! Also perfect for a late night taco binge! They don’t compare to other premium tacos, but you get what you pay for. I think they’re definitely on to something by improving their menu items, which is important if they want to compete for a bite in the taco market. Go for the tacos, stay for the margs!
